Ticks – They really are out to get you!

It is time to keep a look out for ticks.  Don’t assume just because the day is cold that the ticks will be hiding.

Two weeks ago I was outside photographing squashes for a blog post.  While rearranging a squash I noticed a black dot: a tick that had been hiding in the grass had moved to the squash.  I’ve seen ticks when the temperature was just above freezing at 34 degrees.

Black Legged Tick (a.k.a. Deer Tick). Note the serrated mouth parts. No wonder they are so difficult to remove.

It is spring. Ticks are hungry for a blood meal. Don’t let them find you!

I found this tick on my forearm last May. It must have crawled up my sleeve while I was weeding the flower beds. Luckily I found the tick before it embedded itself in my arm.
